According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Canada is one of the most educated countries on earth; Canada ranks 1st worldwide in the number of adults having higher education, over half its residents have at least an undergraduate college or university degree.

Canadian universities are known for their high quality and excellence in academic standards and are consistently ranked among the top universities internationally.

If you want to study abroad, Canada would be one of the best destination to get an education. We have put together a list of our top seven reasons you should consider before studying abroad in Canada.

Canada is recognized internationally for its quality education system. According to QS University World Rankings, there are currently three universities in Canada that rank in the top 50 worldwide. Also, Canada ranked the best country for education in 2017, citing factors of university excellence and a highly developed education system for the top spot.

The tuition fees and the cost of living for international students are generally lower than the USA, the UK, and Australia. Therefore, Canada is one of the most preferred destinations for international students to study at colleges, universities and language schools.

International students in Canada are eligible to work on-campus or off-campus up to 20 hours per week without a work permit if the student:

  • has a valid study permit
  • is a full-time student at a designated learning institution
  • have started studying
  • are in a program that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate and is at least six months long and
  • have a Social Insurance Number

Work as a co-op or intern student

Some programs include work experience as part of their curriculum. International students may apply for a co-op or intern work permit if:

  • the student has a valid study permit,
  • the student has a letter from his/her school that confirms all students in their program need to complete work placements to get their degree
  • your co-op or internship is 50 percent or less of the total program of study.

If an international student graduated from a designated learning institution and wants to stay in Canada temporarily while working, he/she may be eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) up to three years.

United Nations regularly ranks Canada in the top 10 countries in the world in its Quality of Life Index. Combining excellent schools, a tolerant and safe culture, an innovative economy, and extraordinary beauty, Canada is one of the best places to study for international students.

Canada is one of the safest countries in the world. According to the 2017 Global Peace Index (GPI), which was published by the Institute for Economics and Peace, Canada is the eighth safest out of 163 countries. 23 different parameters were used to rank countries to determine how peaceful they are. Some of the factors are homicide rates, violent crimes, the impact of terrorism and deaths from internal conflicts.

International students are expected to leave Canada once the student has completed his/her study unless the student applies for Permanent Resident or a work permit. There are several permanent resident categories that an international student can apply, including the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Provincial Nominee Program.
